21c Museum

1.         Briefly describe the content of the lecture/exhibition and what was being communicated:

The Exhibition was inside a hotel downtown Cincinnati. The hotel has two floors of different artists artwork. There were all types of art like photography, paintings, and sculptures.

2.         Describe what inspired you about the lecture/exhibition including how it will affect your work as an artist:

My favorite artwork I saw was by Anthony Goicolea called “Bed Ridden” It's of a young man that looks ill from sickness or a night of too much fun. The hash marks represent pain or pleasure. Then he is surrounded by figures of himself that are morphing and melting together. In my graphic design artwork, I want to bring mystery and fantasy into my work. I want my viewers to question the meaning of my artwork.

3.         Describe the weaknesses of the lecture/exhibition and how it could be improved or executed differently:

Everyone was really nice the artwork was unique and beautiful. The painting I liked was very well done. There was nothing I didn’t like at 21c Museum I was very impressed by everything.

4.         Describe your personal feelings when listening to the lecture and/or viewing the exhibition:

I had a lot of fun going to the expedition downtown the artwork sometimes questioned social expectations. Some of the art was made out of ordinary things like one piece was made out of stickers. I was very impressed and I would like to go back and see it again.

Why I Want To Be A Designer

Ever since I was a little girl I loved art like drawing and painting. I was an only child growing up and art was a way for me to express myself. When I was in high school I tried to take every art class I could. My junior year of high school I was taking a graphic design class, and I really enjoyed it. When I started Northern Kentucky University I started to realize that I wanted to major in visual communications.

Last semester I was attending University of Tennessee Chattanooga. I took a graphic design class while I was there. The last project we had in that class made me realize what kind of designer I wanted to be. For are assignment we had to create an image that we thought addressed an important issue in today's society. We were only allowed to use three colors for are artwork. Then we had to make stencils of are artwork, and spray paint are designs on illustration board. I wanted my artwork to talk about women’s rights. I decided to create an image in illustrator of the statue of liberty with a black bar across her face, and her holding a sign. During a critique everyone understood the message I was trying to convey. I realized then what kind of designer I want to be. I hope my artwork will question important issuing going on in the world, and help inspire people to make a change.
